All-City Cycles was a Minneapolis-based bicycle brand that brought bold graphic design, urban attitude, and uncompromising quality to the world of steel-framed bicycles.
Description
All-City Cycles was a Minneapolis-based bicycle brand that brought bold graphic design, urban attitude, and uncompromising quality to the world of steel-framed bicycles. Founded by Quality Bicycle Products (QBP), one of the largest bicycle parts distributors in the world, All-City carved out a distinctive niche by serving bicycle messengers, urban riders, and gravel enthusiasts with frames that combined classic steel craftsmanship with striking, culturally inspired paint schemes. Drawing inspiration from vintage motorcycles, hot rods, ski magazines, and classic cycling catalogues, All-City made the bicycle itself a canvas for self-expression—a philosophy that resonated deeply with riders who valued style as much as substance.
History
Origins in Minneapolis
All-City Cycles was founded in 2007 by Quality Bicycle Products (QBP) in Minneapolis, Minnesota. The brand was created to satisfy a growing niche market of urban-oriented cyclists, bicycle messengers, and commuters who demanded both quality and visual flair. In its early years, All-City focused on single-speed and fixed-gear urban framesets, with stunning paintwork central to the brand’s identity from the very beginning.
Expansion and Evolution
While the frames were manufactured in Taiwan, the design vision remained firmly rooted in Minneapolis. All-City’s reach broadened significantly when the brand moved into performance-oriented bicycles around 2016, developing custom-extruded steel tubing that elevated both ride quality and frame aesthetics. The product line grew to encompass road, cyclocross, gravel, and track bikes, appealing to a far wider audience while maintaining the brand’s distinctive character.
A Cult Following
All-City cultivated a devoted community of riders who appreciated the brand’s refusal to take itself too seriously, combined with genuinely excellent frame design. Limited-edition colourways and collaborations became collector’s items, and the brand’s presence at events, races, and in urban cycling culture helped define an era of American steel cycling.
Retirement
In a bittersweet development, QBP announced that All-City Cycles would be “retired in a few years,” with no new product development beyond model year 2024. The announcement marked the end of an era for one of the most visually distinctive and culturally significant American bicycle brands of the 21st century.
