Ernesto Colnago founded the brand in 1954 with a clear vision: to create bicycles that would become an extension of the rider. Apprenticed to Gloria Bicycles at just 13 years old, Ernesto pursued road racing before a serious crash ended his racing career. Rather than abandon the sport, he channeled his passion into building bikes, initially subcontracting for Gloria before opening his own shop and constructing his first frames in 1954.

In 1956, just two years after founding the company, Ernesto revolutionized fork manufacturing by inventing the cold-bending technique for fork tubes—a breakthrough that would influence bicycle design industry-wide.
