Veloheld is a German bicycle brand based in Dresden, with frame production in Leipzig, specialising in durable, beautifully crafted steel and titanium bicycles. Founded in 2007, Veloheld occupies a distinctive position in the German cycling landscape: a small, independent manufacturer that builds its own frames in-house, maintaining full control over every stage of the production process—from the first cut to the final weld. The brand’s focus spans urban mobility, sporty road frames, and adventure-oriented bicycles, all united by a commitment to longevity, recyclable materials, and honest craftsmanship.

History

Student Origins

Veloheld was founded in 2007, conceived during the final stages of its founders’ university studies. The name was born during a semester abroad in Switzerland, capturing the spirit of the project: “Veloheld” combines “Velo” (bicycle, from the Swiss-German and French tradition) with “Held” (hero in German). Initially, the brand was connected with the design studio neongrau, reflecting its roots in both cycling and visual design.

Independence and Growth

In 2012, the connection with neongrau was dissolved, and Carsten Maiwald—one of the original founding team—took over as managing director, steering the brand toward a sharper focus on frame building and bicycle production. Under Maiwald’s leadership, Veloheld invested in establishing its own frame-building workshop in Leipzig.

In-House Production in Leipzig

All Veloheld frames are manufactured in the company’s Leipzig workshop, where the brand works with frame builder Sören Marx, previously known for his frame-building company Unique Cycles. This in-house capability is rare among small bicycle brands and gives Veloheld an unusual degree of control over quality and craftsmanship. The frames are made from recyclable CrMo steel and high-quality titanium, reflecting the brand’s commitment to sustainability and durability.

Today

Veloheld maintains a showroom in Dresden and continues to produce bicycles that serve urban commuters, tourers, and sport riders alike. The brand’s philosophy remains rooted in the idea that a well-built bicycle should last a lifetime, and that the best frames are those made with care, close to home.
